Course Description:

Cocaine is a commonly abused drug in the United States. As a result, it is not unusual for cocaine positive patients to present for either elective or emergent surgery. The challenges that such patients present to anesthesia providers are well known.

Current practice regarding management of cocaine positive patients varies widely between institutions, with many places opting to cancel surgeries. Procedure cancellations due to use of cocaine pre-operatively results in loss of revenue, resources, as well as logistical difficulties when trying to reorganize operating room schedule.

However, there are no recommendations from neither American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) nor American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) regarding cocaine‐positive patients presenting for elective surgery.

This course will give you guidance on how to deal with a cocaine positive patient.

10 Randomized Question Exam 80% or better required for CE credits.
