Before you buy hours
What your board asks for
Five example states. Check your own cycle first — the number of hours, the length of the cycle and the subjects that are pinned down by rule all differ.
| State | Hours per cycle | Renewal cycle | What the rule specifies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Michigan | 25 | 2 years | Not less than 2 of the 25 hours in pain and pain symptom management, in each renewal period — RNs and LPNs alike. Mich. Admin. Code R 338.10601(2); history line 2024 MR 9, effective 8 May 2024. |
| California | 30 | 2 years | Thirty contact hours every two-year renewal. |
| Florida | 24 | 2 years | 16 of the 24 are general hours, and those general hours must come from a state or national nursing accreditation organization. |
| Massachusetts | 15 | 2 years | The rule names no approving bodies; a course qualifies if it meets the Board’s content criteria. |
| Kentucky | 14 | Annual | Renews every year rather than every two. Kentucky accepts continuing education approved by other state boards of nursing. |
Sources: each board’s own published rule, reviewed 29 September 2026. The Michigan requirement is quoted from Mich. Admin. Code R 338.10601(2). Rules change; this table is a starting point, not a substitute for your board’s current language.
This table is about requirements, not about acceptance
It tells you what your board asks of you. It is not a statement that any particular course here counts toward any of these cycles. Each course page carries its own continuing-education statement, and that statement applies only to the course it appears on.
The catalog
Seven courses for RNs, LPNs and LVNs
Prices run from $12 to $299 and every course is online, self-paced, built on recorded lectures, and ends in a randomized multiple-choice exam.
Hypnosis for Pain Management Certification (4th Edition)
The full pain-management program: eleven recorded sessions on using hypnosis to manage chronic and procedural pain.
Propofol: The Thin White Line
Discuss the mechanism of action of propofol and explain some of the side effects of ketamine, across two recorded lectures.
Airway Assessment
A one-hour airway assessment module for nurses, built on a full recorded lecture.
Sedation Medications
Identify the side effects and contraindications of the sedation medications, and describe safe and effective medication protocols, against the standards facilities are required to address for conscious sedation.
Remimazolam
Where being short and predictable is the goal: compare remimazolam with traditional sedatives, hypnotics and other short-acting agents, and define the benefits of a novel short-acting benzodiazepine in outpatient procedural areas.
Airway Management
Identify the indicators of a difficult airway, in a recorded session running a full hour behind a one-hour course.
Surgical Positioning: Injury Awareness and Prevention
Identify the potential risks associated with different surgical positions. A 55-minute recorded lecture behind a one-hour course.
Video runtimes are measured from the course media itself, not estimated.
If you renew in Michigan
Two of your twenty-five hours are spoken for
Michigan requires not less than 2 of the 25 required hours in pain and pain symptom management in each renewal period — every cycle, not once, and for LPNs exactly as for RNs.
The rule sets out its own qualifying subject matter, and the list is not exhaustive: psychology of pain, behavior modification, stress management and clinical applications are all named in Mich. Admin. Code R 338.10601(2) (history line 2024 MR 9, effective 8 May 2024).
Until written confirmation is in hand, we will not tell you a course counts toward the 2-hour pain requirement.
Not yet confirmed in writing by the Michigan Board of Nursing.
Before you add it to the cart
Three questions nurses ask first
Will these hours count toward my license renewal?
Each course page carries its own continuing-education statement, and that statement applies only to the course it appears on. Requirements differ by state, license type and renewal cycle — the table above is a starting point — so read the statement on the course page against your own board’s current language before you enroll.
Where we do not yet hold written confirmation from a board, we print that on the page instead of implying acceptance. The Michigan pain requirement above is the live example.
How long does a course take, and how do I get my certificate?
Everything in this lane is online and self-paced, from 1 to 20 contact hours. Each course ends in a randomized multiple-choice exam. Airway Assessment is 10 questions, 80% or better, and you can retake it as often as you need within your access year. Airway Management is 5 questions at 80% or better. The exact format is printed on every course page.
Pass the exam and the certificate is available to download from your account, with your contact hours on it. Nothing is posted to you and nothing has to be scheduled.
Is anything here specific to LPNs, or is it all written for RNs?
Every course in this lane is written for the same audience: registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and licensed vocational nurses. There is no separate LPN catalog, no separate LPN price, and no course you have to skip.
Michigan’s pain and symptom management requirement applies to LPNs exactly as it applies to RNs.
