Nursing CE by state

What does your state board say about who may approve CE?

We read the nursing rules of all fifty states and the District of Columbia. These 25 pages quote or cite each board’s rule. Most recognize approval by another state’s board, some with limits; California approves providers directly. Read your state’s page for the limits.

If your state is missing

Why a state may be missing

A state is missing for one of three reasons: its board requires no continuing education for RN renewal, its rules do not accept an approval issued by another state’s board, or we could not confirm the answer from the rule itself. In every case, ask your own board before you enroll.

We read these rules on 29 September 2026. Rules change; the board’s current text governs.

Before you buy anything

What we will not tell you

We will not tell you that a course satisfies your state’s requirement. Your board decides that, and an audit lands on your license, not on us.

What we can do is show you the rule, quoted or cited, and linked, and tell you plainly where our courses stand. Each of our RN & LPN course pages states the continuing-education approval that course carries, and that statement applies only to the course it appears on.

If anything here is unclear for your situation, ask your board before you enroll. Keep every certificate and the course description; the description is what shows an auditor what the course covered.

Read the rule yourself

Each state page links to its own rule and board.
